A dream in reach: How Rushab Menon navigated pharmacy ownership with guidance from the Pharmacy Ownership Services team

By Good Neighbor Pharmacy

Overview: A longtime goal finds the right path forward
For Rushab Menon, owning a pharmacy was never just a career ambition. It was a personal goal shaped by years of experience across large retail chains and a desire to build something lasting for his family.

“I’ve always wanted to own my own business,” Menon said. “I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit.”

That goal started to take shape when he came across a pharmacy listing on the Good Neighbor Pharmacy website while searching online for pharmacies for sale in New Jersey. The listing was for Lexington Pharmacy, an established independent pharmacy with strong ties to its community and the kind of foundation Menon had hoped to find.

But as many first-time buyers learn, identifying the right pharmacy is only the beginning. Turning that opportunity into a successful ownership transition requires careful coordination, informed decision-making, and support through a complex process. With help from Marissa Langley, Pharmacy Ownership Consultant at Cencora, Menon was able to move from interested buyer to owner with a clearer path forward

The challenge: Managing a first-time purchase with many moving parts

Buying an independent pharmacy involves much more than agreeing on a price. For first-time buyers, the process can quickly expand to include financial and regulatory disclosures, legal agreements, lender requirements, wholesaler onboarding steps, and critical operational planning before day one.

Menon entered the process, knowing he needed a complete picture before moving forward.

“There’s always concerns,” he said. “Especially when it comes to how much the seller is willing to divulge before you get into a

contract — all their financial disclosures, all of their regulatory disclosures, why are you selling.”

He also wanted the chance to build trust directly with the seller. Early conversations gave him the opportunity to ask questions, understand expectations, and determine whether the fit was right on both sides. “The most important thing was to get the opportunity to talk to the seller,” Menon said.

According to Marissa Langley, Menon stood out not only because he was prepared and serious, but because there was clear mutual respect between buyer and seller — something that can make a meaningful difference in a transaction. The seller had multiple offers throughout 2025 but didn’t accept any until Rushab Menon came along.

The opportunity: Why Lexington Pharmacy stood out

Menon found the listing through a standard web search and discovered the Good Neighbor Pharmacy listings site in October 2024.

“I filled out a form and Marissa called me, and we had a conversation. And the ball just started rolling from there,” said Menon.
The Good Neighbor Pharmacy listing helped him evaluate the opportunity quickly by offering more background than many traditional business-for-sale sites. It included details about the pharmacy’s location, asking price and history, allowing him to assess the fit before taking the next step.

Once he looked more closely, Lexington Pharmacy stood out for several reasons. It was close to home, already operating, and well established in the community. Menon and his family were specifically looking for an active pharmacy rather than a startup, and they were drawn to the community relationships the previous owner had built over time.

“When I first met the previous owner, how intertwined he was with his community,” Menon said. “That was something very important to us — to have that strong bond with the community. That’s how independent pharmacies really survive.”

The pharmacy also aligned with his budget, making it both a strategic and practical fit

The action: Guidance that helped keep the deal on track

What Menon initially expected to be a straightforward introduction became much more than that. From the earliest stages of the process, Langley helped connect buyers and sellers, align expectations, and guided the transaction forward through each milestone.

“A lot of parties are involved. Obviously, you have a buyer, a seller, and an attorney involved … Marissa was just excellent at making sure things are moving along,” said Menon.

That support became especially important as the transaction moved toward closing. Like many first-time buyers, Menon was financing the purchase, which added layers of lender review and documentation requirements. As closing approached, legal and financial details became crucial.

“The biggest part — and something I would say where if she wasn’t there, this deal could have fallen through — was towards the closing stages,” Menon said.

At that point, responsiveness and process knowledge were essential. According to Menon, Langley helped navigate the right internal teams and external contacts, ensuring the necessary documentation was gathered, completed, and presented correctly within a very tight window.

“Every second matters, every minute matters,” Menon said. “Knowing the right person matters, getting the right documentation matters, making sure it’s correctly filed 100% matters. Marissa was instrumental in the buying process.”

The deal was finalized June 2026.

Langley also helped Menon understand the broader ownership process as a first-time buyer, including the importance of preparing for account onboarding and operational continuity before closing. Cencora’s support made sure he had the right purchasing infrastructure in place so the pharmacy could continue running under his entity from day one.

Business impact: A new chapter for the pharmacy and for his family

Today, Menon is actively running Lexington Pharmacy and managing its day-to-day operations, with support from the previous owner during the transition. For Menon and his family, ownership represents both a professional milestone and a personal one.

“That was one of our family dreams — to have our own business,” he said. “We are in control of our own destiny at that point.”

The transition also created continuity for the seller, who was able to retire knowing the pharmacy would remain in the hands of someone committed to preserving its role in the community.

“I told him that just because he’s no longer the owner doesn’t mean he’s gone,” Menon said. “I’ll make sure that your impact stays with the pharmacy as long as I’m here.”

“It really has been a win-win-win for everyone,” he added.

Outcome: Advice for future pharmacy owners

Looking back, Menon says one of the biggest lessons for future owners is to understand as much as possible before closing — especially the operational details that can affect the first days of ownership.

“Understanding everything before jumping in is probably the biggest advice I can give,” he said. It’s always good to have a good coach that can kind of talk through the whole process. This is why I couldn’t have gone through with the deal without the help of Marissa and support from Cencora and Good Neighbor Pharmacy.

For buyers pursuing pharmacy ownership for the first time, his experience is a reminder that while the process can be complex, the right support can make it far more manageable. Through the Pharmacy Ownership team from Good Neighbor Pharmacy and Cencora, prospective owners can access the guidance needed to navigate the transition with more confidence and a stronger foundation for success.
